The National Youth Day was observed across the country on Thursday in a befitting manner. The theme of the day was “Youth awaken to build Bangladesh, Banghabandhu’s Bangladesh”.

Different government and non-government organisations arranged various programmes across the country to mark the day.

In Manikganj, the district administration and Youth Development Department jointly brought out a colourful procession led by Deputy Commissioner SM Ferdous that paraded the main streets of the district town, reports our Manikganj Correspondent.

Hundreds of people including students from schools and colleges, guardians, teachers, representatives from government and youth and non-government organisations, socio-cultural organisations, political leaders, elite persons was also addressed the meeting.

The rally was followed by a discussion meeting held at the conference room of Manikganj Zila Parishad, where Delwar Hossain, Deputy Commissioner attended as the chief guest and Chairman of Zila Parishad and president of of district Awami League Golam Mohiuddin, Mayor of Manikganj Municipality Gazi Kamrul Huda Selim, deputy director of social welfare department and President of Manikganj Press Club Golam Sarower Sanu were present as guests of honour.

The meeting was presided over by Mohammed Abul Hossain, Deputy Director, and Youth Development Directorate in Manikganj.

The chief guest distributed cheques amounting to Tk 1.30 lakh and certificates among the local jubo organisations.

At the discussion meeting, speakers said, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had a dream to build Bangladesh as ‘Golden Bengal’ and urged all to work together to fulfill this dream of Bangabandhu.

“They (youths) are the important segment of the country and driving force of the nation, so they should be built as a disciplined workforce to let them be in the mainstream of development activities,” they said.

In Jhenidah, the day was observed in Jhenidah with due enthusiasm. Department of youth development organized the programme to rebuild the Sonar Bangla of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reports our Jhenidah Correspondent.

A colourful rally was brought out from old collectorate building that paraded the main roads in the town and ended at Hamdah area.

A pair of pigeons was released and national flag was hoisted there to mark the day eventful.

Presided over by deputy director of the department of youth development, Deputy Commissioner Saroj Kumar Nath attended at the discussion meeting at Juba Unnayan Bhaban as chief guest.

Additional superintemndent of policer Milu MIa Biswas, additional deputy commissioner (Revenue) Asaduzzaman, deputy coordinator of the department of youth development Iqbal Mahmud and community development officer Abdullah Al Baki attended as special guests.

Later the chief guest along with other guests distributed certificates and loans.
