The government has appointed finance division secretary Muslim Chowdhury as the comptroller and auditor general (CAG).
According to a notification of the finance division issued on Sunday, Muslim Chowdhury will join the CAG office after taking oath to be administered by the chief justice, agency reports.
The finance division officials said the oath taking ceremony is expected to be held on Tuesday. On April 27, immediate past CAG Masud Ahmed retired and since then the highest post of the CAG office remained vacant. On July 11, Transparency International Bangladesh expressed deep concern over delay in appointing the CAG.
Muslim Chowdhury was appointed as the finance secretary on October 3. In his immediate reaction, Muslim Chowdhury said that he was happy to be the new CAG.
Abdur Rouf Talukder, an additional secretary of finance division, is likely to be appointed as the acting secretary of the finance division.
