Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain on Wednesday called for lowering the interest rate of
microcredit and making this
loan available to all to make the country completely poverty-free by 2030.
“The microcredit disbursement programme should be strengthened further to make the
country completely poverty-free by 2030. The loan should be
available and the current interest rate be reduced,” he said, addressing the 71st meeting
of the board of governors of Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) in Dhaka, reports BSS.
Rural Development and Co-operatives Division Senior Secretary SM Ghulam Farooque, Local Government Division Senior Secretary Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan and other board members attended the meeting, said an official release.
Mosharraf said the rural people are reaping the benefits of development activities being implemented across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He underscored the need for implementing income generating activities at the rural level and applying the ways of poverty reduction suggested by Rural Development Academies in their studies to eradicate poverty from the rural areas.
