Police rescued councilor of Zakiganj Municipality Shahbuddin Tarafder Shakil from Sarail in Brahmanbaria on Tuesday, four days after he reportedly went missing.

A team of police from Sarail Police Station rescued him tied up his hands and legs with rope in a sack from Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Bariura Hatirpul area under Sarail upazila at about 6:00 am. Later, he was admitted to a hospital in Sarail, they said.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sarail Police Station Md Mofiz Uddin Bhuiyan confirmed the matter.

Family members said that Shahabuddin Tarafder Shakil, councilor from Ward No 04 of Zakiganj Municipality and convener of Zakiganj town Jubo League, went missing on Friday night when he was going to attend an arbitration meeting at about 10:30 pm.

Later on Saturday, his brother and Awami League leader Nazrul Islam filed a general diary with Zakiganj Police Station.

Earlier on September 6, a local doctor went missing from the same area after a group of people claiming to be from the Detective Branch (DB) picked him up from his house. Later, the doctor Mahfuz Alam, 30, son of Abdul Mannan of Koskonokpur village Zakiganj was shown arrested in a case filed with Shahjahanpur Police Station of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
