Construction of the metro rail is progressing at a faster pace through installation of spans on pillars.
Thus, Dhaka citizens’ dream of a better communication free from hectic traffic hassle on roads is near about materialisation.
Engineers and workers, engaged in the projects, are rendering efforts round-the-clock in a bid to complete the projects by 2020.
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is implementing the projects at a cost of Tk 22,000 crore.
Related sources said the projects will be completed well before the stipulated timeframe as the Japanese organisation is conducting quality works.
With a view to completing the metro rail works from Diabari to Agargaon by the end of next year and till Motijheel by 2020, massive construction work is going on in different portions of the metro rail project area.
Among the five metro rail projects, the first one is MRT line-6. It is elevated which is being worked in two phases. The first phase is Diabari to Agargaon and the other is up to Motijheel. Project director Aftab Uddin Khan said the MRT-6 project work will be completed by 2020. Workers are working round the clock so that the deadline is not missed.
Once the project opens, it will require only 37 minutes from Uttara to Motijheel by a 100 kilometer speed train in a cost-effective way. A train comprising six compartments will transport around 1,700 passengers.
With 56 trains to be in service by 2019, Dhaka Metro Rail is projected to serve more than 60,000 passengers per hour by 2021, with wait times of approximately 4 minutes. Each day five lakh passengers will transport throughout the city.
Khan Md Mizanul Islam said, with eight contract packages and a stipulated timeframe, the MRT Line-6 project construction work is continuing.
In a bid to complete the metro rail project by December 2019, workers, engineers are rendering their round-the-clock efforts.
While visiting the construction site at Panchabati under Diabari of Uttara in the capital, this correspondent witnessed that three spans have already been installed.
Experts said, once the metro rail is implemented, it will be the most time-efficient, reliable, safe, comfortable and environment-friendly solution to the severe traffic congestion. It will also transform Dhaka into a more active, commuter-friendly, and sustainable city.
The implementation agency working behind Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line-6, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) is working restlessly in a bid to unveil the Uttara-Agargaon section of the metro rail project.
According to the sources of the ministry concerned, the inauguration of the first metro rail of the country was scheduled to take place in 2024, but through special arrangements it is expected to be inaugurated by December 2019.
