A mobile court has convicted a marriage registrar and a bride and sentenced them to suffer six months and one month jail respectively on charge of their involvement in a child marriage registration in Rajshahi on Sunday, reports BSS.
The convict registrar was identified as Rejaul Karim, 56, of Goalkanda village under Bagmara Upazila in Rajshahi district while the bride is Swapan Rahman, 19, son of Abdul Karim of Kumarpur village under Naldanga Upazila in Natore district.
On a tip-off, a police team conducted a sudden raid in the Goalkanda village and caught them red-handed. Subsequently, Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Jakiul Islam conducted a mobile court and handed down the verdict after examining the circumstantial evidences. The marriage registrar also admitted his guilt before the court.
The mobile court handed over the girl to her parents.
