A memorandum of understanding (MoU) on human waste management was signed between Bangladesh Municipality Association (MAB) and Jhenidah municipality on Saturday morning at the municipality complex.
MAB secretary general Rafiqul Islam Kotwal and Jhenidah municipality mayor Saidul Karim Mintu signed the MoU on behalf of respective organisations.
Jhenidah deputy commissioner Saroj Kumar Nath, among others, was present on the occassion.
Jhenidah municipality sources said, financed by the Melinda Gates, the project was scheduled to be continued till 2020 in five municipalities of the country. The municipalities are- Jhenidah, Shariatpur, Bera of Pabna, Natore and Lalmanirhat. The project will address the challenges of human litre and waste management, effective sanitation system for the next generation. It will help meet the sixth point target to sustainable development goal (SDG).
Chaired by Jhenidah municipality mayor, deputy commissioner Saroj Kumar Nath, additional superintendent of police Kanak Kumar Das, MAB secretary general Rafiqul Islam Kotwal, regional project coordinator Ashih Burihati, mayor of Madhukhali municipality Mashiur Rahman and president of Jhenidah municipality councilor’s association Saiful Islam Madhu among others were also present.
