Bangladesh wicket keeper batsman Liton Kumar Das and Imrul Kayes has been included in the central contract of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Saturday after the Executive Meeting of the Board. The list was published by BCB’s director Jalal Yunus.
Liton came under BCB’s central contract for the first time. There were 13 players in the last central contract in 2018. But now, BCB included four more players. BCB has increased the number of players under the central contract for the year 2019 from 10 to 12, apart from five rookies.
Last year, Liton Das was in rookie quota. Imrul Kayes, who was dropped from the contract in 2013, has returned to the contract.
BCB President Nazmul Hassan announced names of 17 players after a board meeting at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
Left-handed opener Imrul Kayes, who was overlooked last year due to poor performances, has been included in the contract under grade A.
He has been a topic of contention after he was axed from the national team recently.
“If we need a back up for New Zealand we don’t have many options apart from Imrul as we don’t have a place for a pacer or spinner. But this is totally my personal observation because his name was not proposed to the officials,” Nazmul told reporters while announcing the central contract that was approved in the BCB board meeting on Saturday.
All rounder Mahmudullah Riyad has been promoted to the ‘A Plus’ category. However, Nazmul Hossain Shanto was dropped from the contract. A total of 17 cricketers, including 12 players from the central contract and 5 players from the rookie quota, were included in the BCB contract. Sabbir Rahman was dropped from the central contract last year due to disciplinary issues. He has not been kept in the central contract this year as well.
Most notably, Soumya Sarkar, Mosaddek Hossain, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Taskin Ahmed all missed out on central contracts this time as well after they did not make the cut last year.
Meanwhile, Former captain Khaled Masud Pilot has been appointed as the Team Operations manager for Bangladesh cricket team’s upcoming series against New Zealand. Following a board meeting yesterday, BCB president Nazmul Hassan spoke to reporters where along with players central contract he also informed the media about Khaled’s appointment.
