There was a time when the nation’s top leaders were mostly lawyers. Although the situation has changed in recent times with almost all top leaders of the country having political background, a good number of lawyers are in line to contest the upcoming 11th national polls, from both top two parties, Awami League and BNP.
Ahead of the 11th national polls, several Supreme Court lawyers, both veterans and young ones, have started lobbying and mass communication to claim the party nomination. Besides communicating with the central leaders, they are also taking part in the socio-economic development of their respective localities and conducting campaigns on different social media.
Among the lawyers, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, SM Rezaul Karim, Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi, Mokhlesur Rahman Badal, Mia Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Shah manjurul Huq, M Sajahan Saju, Barrister Ashraful Islam and Salauddin Regan want to vie for the polls under AL ticket. All of them have collected AL nomination forms wishing to contest the polls.
On the other hand, from BNP, barrister Kaiser Kamal, barrister Baddruddoza Badal, advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal, Arifa Jasmin Nahin, Faruk Hossain, BM Sultan Mahmud, Md Siddik Ullah Miya, Sagir Hossain Lyon and barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain have collected party nominations.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam wants to contest the polls from Munshiganj-2 constituency. Besides taking part in different AL activities in the area, he is also involved in various cultural and social activities.
SM Rezaul Karim wishes to contest from Pirojpur-1 where he has been conducting polls campaign for a long time.
Former member of AL central committee lawyer Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi wants to contest from Dhaka-18 constituency.
Mokhlesur Rahman Badal, who played an important role as a prosecutor of war crimes tribunal, wants AL nomination from Kishoreganj-2 while member of AL sub-committee on religious affairs Mia Mohammad Anwar Hossain wants to contest from Gazipur-4.
Shah Manjurul Huq, who is involved in various social works and famous for conducting legal proceedings free of cost for the people of his locality, wants AL nomination from Mymensingh-8.
Jubo League central joint secretary M Sajahan Saju, Barrister Ashraful Islam and Salauddin Regan also want to contest the polls respectively from Feni-3, Tangail-6 and Laksmipur-2.
Meanwhile, pro-BNP lawyer barrister Kaiser Kamal has collected nomination form wishing to contest from Netrokona-1 constituency.
Secretary of Supreme Court unit of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, barrister Baddruddoza Badal, is active in his area wishing to get party nomination for Jamalpur-3.
Barishal BNP president advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal wants to contest from Barishal-1. He is involved in various social works in his locality.
BNP executive committee member Arifa Jasmin Nahin and Jatiyatabadi Jubo Ainjibi Samity president Faruk Hossain want to contest the polls respectively from Netrokona-2 and Comilla-4.
Former organising secretary of BM College Chhatra Dal Md Siddik Ullah Miya wants party nomination from Bhola-4 constituency.
Joint general secretaries of Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum (SC unit) Sagir Hossain Lyon and barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain also want to contest respectively from Barguna-2 and Bagerhat-2. Both of them are electioneering relentlessly in their respective localities.
