Contemporary world economy is knowledge-based, so a country like ours also needs to transform economic practices basing on knowledge, to compete with the global economy, said noted economist Prof Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad on Monday
Dr. Ahmad, also Chairman of Palli Karma Shahayak Foundation (PKSF) stressed three important fields like development economics, environmental economics and entrepreneurship economics for ensuring overall economic development.
He was addressing a meet the press titled, “Higher education at Specialized Economics Field ” organised by ‘Dhaka School of Economics’ (DScE) at the seminar hall of Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) at Eskaton in Dhaka.
Dr. Q K Ahmad, is the Chairman (honorary) of the Governing Council, DScE, a constituent institute under the University of Dhaka, that offers programs on graduation and post graduation in Economics.
“DScE aims to generate skilled workforce by providing degrees on development economics, entrepreneurship economics and environmental economics, and to meet the ever growing demands of skilled manpower at home and abroad”, Prof. Ahmed said in his address.
He said, Bangladesh is now advancing rapidly in terms of socio-economic development. The name ‘Bangladesh’ will be established at a greater height in the world community holding hands of today’ youth community.
“To be familiar with a foremost contributor of adding value at the social , national and global level ; and arranging inclusive higher education that is stimulating, liberated and commencing from obstacle to wisdom in any field of Economics,” he said.
The DScE currently coordinates programmes like ‘Master of Economics (MEcon) in Entrepreneurship Economics’, ‘Master in Economics (Environmental Economics) Programme’, ‘Master in Economics (Development Economics) Programme’, ‘Post Graduate Diploma in Economics’, ‘Post Graduate Diploma in Enterprise Development’, Bachelor of Economics (BEcon) in Environmental and Resource Economics’, ‘Bachelor of Economics (BEcon) in Development’. Economics From next year, Bachelor of Economics in Entrepreneurial economics will be started.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mahboob Ali, Coordinator, Entrepreneurship Economics and a Macro Specialist, Mohammad Selim, Dr. Rezai Karim Khondker, Dr. A K M Nazrul Islam and Prof.Sheikh Ekramul Kabir were also present on the occasion.
Prof. Mahboob Ali said, DScE will establish Economic incubator very soon while classes of Bachelor of Economics (BEcon) in Environmental and Resource Economics, and Bachelor of Economics (BEcon) in Development Economics will be started from January next year.
The DScE will publish two books on growth with equity for which an agreement has already been signed with Visva Bharati (Shanti Niketan) and Murshidabad Development Institute and Naresuan University,Thailand.
Prof. Dr.Muhammad Mahboob Ali also said that to create employment opportunity and self reliance the school has taken up a massive plan to have a capacity building for Entrepreneurship programme offerings.
He stressed that one of the main approaches of the school is to provide better skill enhancement through entrepreneurial economics most efficiently and effectively.
