The building of Rangiarpota Government Primary School in Jhenidah Sadar upazila may collapse anytime for want to reconstruction.
The authority concerned announced the building abandoned about three years ago. But the students are still now attending the classes with the risk of their lives every day, said the locals and guardians of the minor students.
Some of the learners said that the roofs were damaged many years back and many huge cracks developed on the parts. The damaged portion of the roof falling on the ground frequently leaving the minor learners injured.
But they are compelled to attend the school every day, while the authority declares it closed when it rains. The rain water affects them as they along with their books get wet.
Wadud Hossain an assistant teacher of Rangiarpota Government Primary school said that they are apprehending collapse of the school building any moment as they do not have any alternative for running classes of the school.
The teacher said that they run the classes under the open sky near the school building. They enter the school building when it rains in the monsoon. A number of guardians have already stopped sending their children to the school fearing collapse of the building. The teacher said they could not understand why the authority could not construct a building for the school even three years of declaring the same as abandoned.
Chairman of Sadhuhati Union Parishad Kazi Hafiz Uddin said that he has been contacting to the education department for taking necessary steps to construct a new building.But they have been passing the time without any known reason day by day.
Jhenidah district primary education officer (DPEO) Shaikh Akteruzzaman said that he was not informed about the pitiable condition of the school since he joined in the district more than a year. However, he will look into the matter, DPEO said.
