A faction of Tabligh Jamaat, supporters of Maulana Jubayer, a brought out a protest procession and organised a rally in Noakhali in protest of the ‘attack made on them’ at the Ijtema ground in Dhaka by supports of Maulana Saad, another Tablig Jamaat faction.
On Saturday, it is mentionable, at least one person was killed and more than 200 injured in a series of clashes between the two factions of Tabligh Jamaat over establishing dominance at the Bishwa Ijtema grounds on the banks of the Turag River.
The protest procession brought out on Sunday afternoon was attended by all levels of alem-olamas and Tabligh supporters of Noakhali.
The procession started from in front of Maijdee Jame Masjid in the city and ended in front of the deputy commissioner’s office after parading main city streets.
Later a memorandum was submitted to the deputy commissioner.
Tabligh leaders told the Bangladesh Post that followers of Maolana Saad ‘unprovokedly and unexpectedly’ attacked them, and therefore they demand legal action against the miscreants as well as permission to organise Bishwa Ijtema in Tongi.
