The voters and leaders of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of Jhenidah-4 seat comprising of Kaliganj and part of Jhenidah were agitated when ex BNP lawmaker Shahiduzzaman Beltu appeared
as an independent candidate ignoring party decision in the 11th national polls.
A number of BNP and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leaders and ordinary people said, considering the ill-motive of ex BNP lawmaker Beltu, the Oikyojote has nominated joint secretary of Jatiyatabadi Sechchhasebak Dal Saiful Islam Feroz. But Shahiduzzaman Beltu, ignoring the decision of the central leaders, submitted nomination to the returning officer at Jhenidah as opposed to the assistant returning officer at Kaliganj upazila.
They said Beltu had played a negative role towards the reformation of the then Army led government during one-eleven, and worked against BNP and party chief Begum Khaleda Zia.
He is now severely ill due to various physical complications and lives in the district town. Beltu
actually does not keep contact with the locals and party men in need, they alleged.
Kaliganj upazila Juba Dal president Saidul Islam said Beltu did not extend his hands when activists and leaders of the BNP were affected due to fake cases during the one-eleven incidents.
When this correspondent tried to contact Shahiduzzaman Beltu over his cellular phone, he did not respond after several attempts.
