The people of Bangladesh proved once again that democracy is indeed “for the people, by the people, and of the people.” People are the true and ultimate judge and they never make any mistake. From 1970 to 2018 they voted correctly in favour of their true friend.
Therefore, the victory of Awami League in the 2018 elections was the victory of the people.
It is they who did not believe a word of the opposition propaganda and accordingly foiled all attempts by the alliance workers to scare them away from the poll centres. It is they who did not allow the opposition to make the election controversial.
Braving all odds, early in the morning on the election day, thousands of women, old men and first time voters thronged the centres and cast votes in great enthusiasm. Almost 100 percent of the young voters voted for the Boat symbol.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had gone to the people of the country seeking their vote to form government once again in the 11th parliament. She travelled widely and in every meeting she put forward the series of developments done by her government, and told them of the vision she has for 2021 and 2040.
She told them in details about her plans to end poverty in the country and the projects she has already undertaken in this regard. She told them how this time she would turn every village into a town.
The people everywhere listened to her with rapt attention and they did not send her back empty handed. They raised their hands with Joi Bangla and Joi Bangabandhu slogans. On the election day, they went to the polling centres with their family members and cast their votes in favour of Sheikh Hasina. In fact, the countrymen were well aware of the developments done by the government under Sheikh Hasina’s leadership from 1996 to 2001 and again from 2008 to 2018. They were already determined to see her as prime minister for the 4th time as they found no one who could match her mettle in performing the duties and responsibilities. They wanted her to lead the nation on the development highway for many more years.
The people of Bangladesh are intelligent, hard working and politically conscious. They listen to radio, read newspapers and watch television to keep track of what is going on in the corridors of power. It is therefore not easy to feed them with fabricated information.
They can easily differentiate between a good politician and a crook. No corrupt politician in the locality can survive long in politics when the people decide to dump him in the roadside garbage.
Our history is replete with stories of such leaders. Therefore, no one can fool the people of this land for all the time. At the same time the people of this land will not hesitate to carry a worthy leader on their shoulders who has worked selflessly for their welfare sacrificing personal comfort.
The people of Bengal could recognise the contribution and personal sacrifice of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and that is why they regard him with utmost respect as their savior in the darkest hours of the national history.
Today, the people of Bengal have been able to recognise the personal sacrifice of Bangabandhu’s worthy daughter Sheikh Hasina and regard her as the second savior, who will lift them up from the abyss of poverty and despair. That is why they voted her to power once again. That is why we call it people’s victory.
