Amid high hopes for exploring businesses across the globe, the 24th Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) begins at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital today.
President Abdul Hamid is expected to formally inaugurate the fair. Starting from January 9, the fair will continue till Feb 8 from 10am to 10 pm every day.
The month-long trade fair was organised jointly by the Commerce Ministry and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
The DITF is not only for business promotion activities but it also turns a place for recreation.
As people from all walks of life are eagerly waiting for the trade fair premises for buying their favorite items and, of course, for recreation, the organisers have taken all-out security measures.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said this while speaking at a press conference on Tuesday on the fair premises.
Answering to a question, he said, “We will work together to increase the export earnings.”
“We will also work to increase foreign investment, diversify products and create new employment, he added.
Besides, the minister will also focus on improving the region-wide industries in the coming days by establishing 100 special economic zones.
Commerce Secretary Mofizul Islam said, “We are expecting that the trade fair will start its permanent premises at Purbachal by 2020.”
“When fair will open at Purbachal, it will bring more benefit from there,” he hopes.
Vice-Chairman of EPB Bijoy Bhattacharjee Vice-Chairman was also present on the occasion.
A total of 605 stalls and pavilions including 110 premium pavilions, 83 premium mini pavilions and 412 stalls with restaurants will be set up in the fair venue.
Different organisations from India, Bhutan, Pakistan, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Nepal, Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, the Maldives, Mauritius, Russia, Iran and Swaziland are participating in the fair.
The fair ticket’s price is Tk 30 for adult and Tk 20 for children. For the first time, the fair tickets can be found online with additional value of Tk 2.
