Leading global ICT solutions provider Huawei has passed 20 years of operation in Bangladesh starting from 1998 playing a leading role in making digital Bangladesh. It especially played pioneering role in demonstrating 5G in Bangladesh.
In future, the company wants to be a partner in the advancement of Bangladesh and be an active part of the government’s ‘Vision 2021’ through its dedication, said the company oin a statement issued on Monday.
“Huawei believes in empowering local skilled people. So, 85 percent of its total employees are from Bangladeshis. To give better service in Bangladesh, Huawei has 7 offices, 14 terminal service centers (consumer business) and over 350 smartphone brand shops. Besides, Huawei Bangladesh chose Shakib Al Hasan, the no. 1 all-rounder cricketer as its brand ambassador, the company claimed.
In global perspective, the company has more than 180,000 employees, 36 joint innovation centers, 14 R&D centers and operates in more than 170 countries and regions. Founded in 1987, the company’s current revenue is US$ 92.55 billion dollar and it has become the 72nd in Fortune’s 500 Global list moving up from the 83rd position in the previous year.
The tech-giant has invested about $60 billion in R&D from 2008 to 2017. It also has 74,307 patents and is a member of 360+ standards organizations, industry alliances, and open source communities.
In the past also, Huawei played pioneering role in deploying 3G and 4G in Bangladesh. The company is also working on the implementation of 5G technology.
As 5G is gaining massive positive response worldwide, the ICT Division, Huawei and another telecom operator demonstrated 5G in the country which was inaugurated by Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Prime Minister’s ICT Adviser.
In that program, ICT adviser praised Huawei for demonstrating 5G with its amazing technology.
Huawei is not only business-oriented, but also socially responsible and from this point of view, it conducted different corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes in Bangladesh like- ICT Mobile Training Bus, Seeds for the Future, relief campaigns etc.
“Seeds for the future” is the biggest CSR programme of Huawei. In 2018, top ten Bangladeshi ICT talent students were taken to Huawei’s headquarters for training. Kazi M. Aminul Islam, executive chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) was the chief guest.
In 2016, Huawei signed MoU for “ICT Mobile Training Bus” project for ICT training for rural people which was a huge milestone. In August 2013, it donated more than a hundred laptops to the schools in Kushtia to improve the hardware facilities of schools.
In July 2013, Huawei Bangladesh sponsored the “Green City Clean City” in Dhaka City Corporation and Environmental Sanitation Division.

In December 2017, Huawei Bangladesh was rewarded “Highest VAT payer in service sector for fiscal year 2015-2016 in Dhaka district”, while in July 2014, it was awarded the “Best Tax Payer Enterprise”. It was awarded the “Best Design Pavilion” in Digital world-2017.
