The High Court on Thursday issued directives asking the authorities concerned to send BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia immediately to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for treatment.
A HC bench comprising Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Rajik Al Jalil pronounced the order, reports BSS.
The order was given on a writ petition seeking the HC directives on the authorities concerned to send her to a specialised hospital from prison. The court also directed to form a five-member fresh medical board, barring members of Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad (SWACHIP) and Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), for her treatment.
As per the HC order, BSMMU Internal Medicine Department Prof Md Abdul Jalil Chowdhury and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department Associate Professor Dr Badrunnesa Ahmed will be in the board. Other three members of the board will be included as per Khaleda Zia’s choice.
Khaleda Zia can take physiotherapists, gynecologists and technicians by her choice. She can also take specialized physicians outside BSMMU after receiving permission of the board.
Senior lawyers AJ Mohammad Ali, Zainul Abedin and Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon took part in the hearing on behalf of Begum Khaleda Zia while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam from the state.
