The government has stalled the decision to stop night stay at Saint Martin which will suppose to continue from next March. Considering the livelihood of the island people, the government has cancelled its decision. Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry secretary Md Muhibul Haque confirmed this matter to the media.
He said, this sudden decision may hamper the lives and business of the island, based on such thought, the government is bringing some relaxation to this decision.
But some steps are taking to restrict the over follow of tourists to this island. As per the new steps, where each day more than 3500 tourists on an average visits the island, now the number will be kept under 1200 tourists.
To this regard the secretary said, travelers who wants to visit the Saint Martin have complete online registration with a certain amount of fees. Sufficient manpower in union level will be appoint at where travelers can complete registration by their national identity card.
Besides an order will be issued to increase the rent of hotel and motel, for night holding at the island to the respective authorities- he added.
About the earning from the online registration he said, the amount that will earn from online registration will be used to increase the security of the island and Ansar Battalion will also be appoint there for tourism.
Besides to maintain the natural beauty of the island, waste management is also giving priority. For this hotel owners of the island have to pay a certain amount. A portion of earning money from online registration will also be used in this regard.
Muhibul Haque further said, some relaxation is now fetching to night holding decision, but gradually the whole island will be bring under the government supervision to safeguard the island.
The government also plans to shift the inhabitants who are now staying at the island to other places.
At the same time hotels that are now situated in the front of the island will also shifted to inside of the island.
