Sheikh Lutfar Rahman Government Degree College ground at Kotalipara in Gopalganj district has put on a festive look as Prime Minister and Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to address her first electoral campaign there on Wednesday.
The local AL leaders, workers and supporters have completed all necessary preparations to successfully hold the grand rally.
Police and intelligence agencies have also taken all essential preparations to ensure security of the assembly programme.
Prior to the rally, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will start the campaign for the 11th national election in Tungipara through paying homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
After reaching Tungipara on Wednesday noon, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will offer wreaths at Bangabandhu’s mausoleum and also take part in praying through citing Surah Fatiha from holy Quran.
The prime minister will also take part in seven different campaigns on her returning from Gopalganj.
AL joint general secretary Abdur Rahman confirmed this at a press conference in the capital on Tuesday. The selected places include Vanga Road of Faridpur, Faridpur road, Rajbari road, Paturia Ghat, Manikganj bus stand, Dhamrai Rabeya Medical College Hospital premises and Savar bus stand.
Abdur Rahman said, “Many countries including neighbouring India have abolished the provision of allowing the convict in corruption charges to take part in the national election. Despite having a good idea about this, leader like Kamal Hossain and also BNP leaders-workers are making different vicious moves to get Khaleda Zia, who is an appropriator of orphan’s money, participate in the polls.”
He said BNP has been doing such activities as a tactic of winning people’s sympathy for an acknowledged corrupt person.

Abdur Rahman also said, “BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said with tearful eyes that they will participate in the election without Khaleda Zia. Because they knew that, no matter how much BNP politically demanded her release, Khaleda is an appropriator of orphan’s money and a convicted ‘corrupt’ in the eyes of the law. Under the existing law of the country, she cannot participate in election and politics.”
