A court in Manikganj on Tuesday sentenced 4 people to death penalty and 3 people sentenced to life imprisonment for killing an eighth-grader student in Manikganj.
The court also fined Tk 50,000 each.
After hearing all the records
and witnesses, District and
Sessions Judge of Manikganj Shahidul Alam Jhinuk delivered the verdict on Tuesday in presence of the convicts.
The condemned convicted were identified as Rakibul Islam, Sultan Mahmud, Sohel and Rafiqul Islam, while the lifers are Rubel, 24, Sajib Khan and Akibul hailed from Khasherchar village in Dolla union Singair upazila of the district. Sultan and Sajib are absconding since the murder.
However, the court acquitted an accused, named Shariful Islam Sharif as charges brought against him could not be proved for want of strong evidences.
According to the prosecution, Zahirul Islam, a class VIII student and son of Khokon Mia of Khasherchar village in Singair upazila in 2014, was found dead in the septic tank of Abdul Kaiyum on September 17, 2014, two days after he had gone missing.
The convicts abducted him and sliced him into five pieces following previous enmity.
Sheikh Khokan Mia, father of the deceased filed a case with Singair Police Station accusing 8 people for killing his son. Police could not arrest the principal accused named Sultan Mahmud of the case.
After a long investigation, the investigating officer submitted the charge sheet in the court on on June 4, 2017 against all the eight accused.
The court recorded deposition by all of 27 witnesses before passing the verdict.
Assistant Public prosecutor Advocate Mathur Nath Sarkar stood for the state while Advocate Saiful Islam defended for the convicted.
