The lifestyle of the Dhaka people has become more peaceful and comfortable due to the infrastructural development of Dhaka over the last 10 years.
The city dwellers have started enjoying benefits of the recently constructed flyovers, overpasses and u-loops in the capital. In many cases, daily passengers of Dhaka have gotten rid of the long harassment of traffic jams at different roads.
Traffic congestion at Dhaka’s different intersections including Sayedabad, Jatrabari, Maghbazar-Mouchak, Malibag, Banani and Kuril has decreased drastically after the inauguration of Maghbazar, Kuril and Jatrabari-Gulistan flyovers.
Due to the construction of Maghbazar-Mouchak flyover and two u-loops at Badda-Rampura, travel time between Uttara and Matijheel has lessened.
Around 100 thousand people living in Mirpur have been greatly benefitted by the construction of Zillur Rahman flyover at Mirpur-Cantonment area. Now, one can go to Uttara in 30 minutes from Mirpur.
Experts said once the ongoing Metro Rail and Dhaka Elevated Expressway project completes, and discipline is established in public transport sector, lifestyle in the capital would become more comfortable.
In this regard, University of Asia Pacific vice-chancellor Dr Zamilur Reza Chowdhury said, “Several infrastructural development projects have been implemented in Dhaka; some others are ongoing. It will take a little time to enjoy the fruits of these projects. If all the plans can be implemented hundred percent, it would not be a tough job to make Dhaka a modern, civilised, and livable city.”
The two u-loops at Rampura-Badda have successfully decreased the traffic congestion in the area. Besides city roads have been repaired at Banani, Gulshan, Mahakhali, Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur, Paltan, Matijheel and many other areas.
Traffic sources and daily passengers said traffic jam at different points of the city including Press Club-Farmgate to Uttara, Bishwa Road to Malibagh, New market and Matijheel-Chattogram Road have come down to a tolerable stage.
Traffic congestion has decreased in Shahbag-Bangla Motor-Farmgate road also while traffic scenario has abruptly changed at areas adjacent to Maghbazar, Kuril and Jatrabari flyovers. It now takes a few minutes to come to Rampura from Shantinagar. Cumilla and Chattogram-bound passengers do not have to wait for hours in vehicles, as they can go to Chattogram Road in moments using the Jatrabari flyover.
Earlier it took at least one hour to go to Uttara from Banani which now takes 5-7 minutes.
These visible developments of infrastructures have made the public life easy and simple.
Kuril flyover has brought a radical change to its adjacent areas. Earlier, Jatrabari and Rampura-bound buses coming from Airport and Tongi used to wait at Kuril intersection for a long time at the rail gate. At times, the tailback stretched even to Khilkhet. Now the Kuril rail gate is not used anymore.
The roads and streets of the capital city have been thoroughly repaired and widened. The footpaths have been reconstructed.
Meanwhile, the Hatirjheel Integrated Development project has brought about a huge change in the communication between the adjacent areas. Hatirjheel is playing an important role in the communication between the northern and southern part of the capital.
