The government will submit a report on the country’s overall financial sector, which will contain major matters related to the banking sector, in the middle of the current month, according to Finance Minister AMA Muhith.
Muhith was briefing newsmen after emerging from a meeting of the cabinet committee on public purchase, on Wednesday.
He said filing of the case with regard to the Bangladesh Bank reserves heist may take place within a very short span of time as the time limit to file the case is within January 15, 2019.
“Bangladesh Bank is serious about this issue, but it is taking time to sue as discussion is on with the Rizal Bank in this regard, and we need the cooperation of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to file the case, I feel that the Fed will extend us all-out support because they were the custodian of our reserves,” the minister added.
He said the Fed has a reputation across the world because it also preserves money of many other countries.
To a query on how development work will continue with the purchase committee, economic affairs and cabinet all remaining suspended for the next 2 to 3 months, the minister said, the ongoing process of development work will continue as usual. Purchase activities will also be the same, ministers will send proposals to me and they will be approved as usual.
He said that the meeting of the committee on Economic Affairs will not be held, but it will not be a problem because important files related to economic affairs have been approved recently. New project preparation will go on as usual and when time comes again, they will be passed.
