A doctor was killed in a road accident at Bijoy Shoroni of Tejgaon area in the capital city on Tuesday.

The accident took place in the early morning when a bus rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Bijoy Sarani intersection in Dhaka’s Tejgaon area early morning.

Sub Inspector of Tejgaon Police Station Minhaj Uddin confirmed the matter.

The deceased was identified as Akther Jahan Rumpa, 28, daughter of Aktherrujjaman, hailed from Halishahar of Chattogram. She was a doctor of VARD Eye Hospital in Osmani Nagar of Sylhet.

Her marital agreement was completed two months ago and she was supposed to marry this winter, said Sayeed Mohammad Abdullah, the victim’s brother-in-law.

Her fiancé was also on the way to Dhaka from Chattogram to meet her on Tuesday, he also said.

Rumpa was coming to Dhaka from Sylhet to attend an interview and she boarded the auto-rickshaw at Mohakhali Bus Terminal around 4:45am, he said.

A bus of Green Line Paribahan hit the auto-rickshaw from opposite direction at Bijoy Sarani intersection, leaving Tumpa and the auto-rickshaw driver injured, said Md Minhaj Uddin, a sub-inspector of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) Police Outpost.

She was declared dead at DMCH around 5:15am, the police official said.

The injured driver was undergoing treatment at a local hospital, he added.
