In his debut wearing the black and white stripes of Juventus, Andrea Favelli scored an eight-minute brace to power Juventus to a 2-0 win in the International Champions Cup.
Neither team had many of their stars on the field, as the players that participated in the World Cup are still enjoying their summer vacation.
Favilli wasted no time getting himself involved in the match, breaking through on net in the second minute only for Sven Ulreich to come up with a huge save. This may have been the confidence boost he needed, as Favelli was relentless in attack the rest of the match.
A calamity at the back by Bayern’s 18-year-old centre-back Josip Stanisic led to a tap-in on an empty net for Favilli. Ulreich’s attempt to save the young defender’s wayward backpass from going over the end-line went straight to Claudio Marchisio, who found the 21-year-old striker in the box to give Juventus a 1-0 lead just after the half-hour mark.
Eight minutes later, a beautiful through ball over the top from Alex Sandro put Favilli through on goal to beat Ulreich as the near-post to double Juve’s lead.
Favelli is on the verge of joining Genoa with Juve maintaining a buy-back clause. He scored eight goals in 14 matches in all competitions for Ascoli last season, who finished 18th in Serie B.
Bayern Munich dominated possession (70%) and in the shot column (20-9), however, Mattia Perin and Carlo Pinsoglio both did well to combine for the clean sheet.
Several players made their debuts for their respective clubs, including Favelli, Perin, João Cancelo, and Emre Can amongst others.
It was also a good outing for American defender Chris Richards. The Bayern addition played the entire second half on the right side at centre-back and didn’t concede.
