A Kushtia court has awarded life term imprisonment to a man, his wife and son for killing a college student in the district.
Judge of Kushtia District and Sessions Judge’s Court Arup Kumar Goswami delivered the verdict on Monday.
The convicts are Mejbar Rahman, 60, of Charbaniapara area under Kumarkhali upazila in Kushtia, his wife Ranzana Khatun, 50, and their son Roisuddin, 28. Of them, Roisuddin is absconding.
The court also acquitted two other accused in the case as the prosecution failed to produce enough evidence against them.
Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Anup Kumar Nandi said that Mejbar Rahman clashed with part-owners over a family land distribution on June 1 in 2012. College student Abdul Gani, 24, son of Sahidul Molla of Boaldah village in Kushtia sadar upazila, was hacked by the convicts in the clash and died on way to the hospital. Later, victim’s father filed a murder case with Kushtia model police station and then case
was transferred to Kumarkhali police station.
