Renowned journalist Shafiuzzaman Khan Lodi and celebrity film director Mostofa Sarwar Farooki were honoured with Fazlul Haque Memorial Awards ’18 for their contributions to filmmaking and journalism, respectively. The award giving ceremony was held at the capital’s Westin Hotel on Saturday.
Celebrated actor Syed Hasan Imam, actor Akbar Hossain Khan Pathan Farooque, Anwara Syed Haq and Shujata handed over the crest to the winners of this year’s award. Novelist and editor of the daily Kaler Kantho Imdadul Haq Milon, dramatist Mamunur Rashid, actors Omar Sani and Riaz, Kona Reza, Farhadur Reza Probal and Keka Ferdousi were present, among others.
On receiving the award Farooki said, “I am very happy to receive an award named after Fazlul Haque. This award will inspire me to work harder.”
The event is organized anually by Fazlul Haque Smriti Committee in honour of late photo journalist, editor and filmmaker Fazlulu Hoque. He was editor of the first cine magazine of the country, Cinema, which he started publishing in 1950 from Bogura, his birth place. Fazlul Haque also directed a film for children titled ‘President’.
In 2004, his widow Rabeya Khatun introduced the ‘Fazlul Haque Memorial Award’. Since then Fazlul Haque Smrity Committee has been conferring the honour every year on a film director and a cine journalist.
The awards ceremony also included screening of a documentary on Fazlul Haque.
