Aspirants for the 11th parliamentary polls can submit their nomination papers to returning officers and assistant returning officers by 5:00 pm today, Wednesday (November 28), the last day for filing of nominations
However, aspirants can also submit their nomination papers to the Election Commission online, as the commission has introduced it for the first time in the elections, joint secretary of EC SM Asaduzzaman told Bangladesh Post.
The commission on Tuesday issued a circular for all returning officers asking them to give candidates directions on some tasks regarding filing nomination papers.
As per the direction, no display of strength will be allowed during collection and submission of nomination paper. Above five persons will not be allowed with the candidate during submission of the nomination paper. None can hold any meetings and rallies before the polls. Only streets will be allowed for candidates.
Poster of candidate must be black and white with number, name of publisher and address of printing press printed below, according to the circular.
Polling agent must be the voter of the respective parliamentary constituencies. Candidate will submit two copies of passport size photograph, and name of polling agent to the returning officer 24 hours before the polls.
Candidate must deposit Tk 20,000 for contesting the polls and must submit eight pieces of information along with the nomination paper. Candidates must submit their tax returns with the nomination papers.
If any submits nomination paper with wrong information, his/her candidacy will be cancelled, so nomination papers must be filled consciously, the directive noted.
Candidate must open an account at a scheduled bank as all expenditure for election will be from the account. The candidate must mention account number in their nomination paper.
According to the schedule, the polls will be held on December 30. The last day of filing nomination papers is November 28. The nomination papers will be scrutinized on December 2, and the last day for withdrawal is December 9.
