Bangladesh Nationalist Party Secretary on Thursday thanked the Election Commission as the constitutional body cleared its aspirants’ candidature for the parliamentary seats after hearing their appeal petitions.
“BNP’s many candidates, whose nominations were cancelled during the scrutiny process, now can contest the poll as the Election Commission cleared them. I’m giving thanks to the commission as it ensured fair justice,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told at a press briefing at party chairperson Gulshan office in the city.
He alleged their candidates did not get justice from the returning officers.
“We are constantly saying that the government officials always follow the incumbent government. And the government officials are also compelled to carryout the government’s order. So, we can’t expect justice from them,” said Mirza Fakhrul, also spokesperson BNP led Jatiya Oikyafront.
He termed the validity of BNPs candidates’ nomination as the victory.
“And now our candidates will contest the polls and win their respective constituencies. Now we can hope that our Chairperson Khaleda Zia will also get justice,” he said.
Replying to a query about the final list of BNP, he said they are going to announce partial name of the selected candidates on Thursday night.
“We think the declaration of most of our candidates valid is our victory. We also hope our leader Khaleda Zia will also be declared a legal candidate if justice is ensured,” he said.
He alleged that the government, being afraid of defeat, is now using state machineries to influence the election.
The BNP leader also alleged that law enforcers continued the arrest of their leaders and activists hampering their organisational activities.
He urged the government and the Election Commission to stop arresting opposition activists and create a proper election atmosphere so that all the parties can exercise their democratic right
