The fee of various medical tests should be the same at public and private hospitals, said experts.
Besides, they said, the facilities of public hospitals should also be improved so that people do not go to the private ones for better treatment.
In this regard, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Kanak Kanti Barua on Saturday told the Bangladesh Post: “The government recently fixed the rate of various medical tests for all public hospitals, but the rate should be the same for the private hospitals also, to ensure proper healthcare services for poor and underprivileged people across the country.”
Observing that this holistic approach of the government will facilitate people to avail healthcare services at low cost, he underscored the need for implementing same prices for private hospitals also.
“So that people can get their adequate medical treatment within affordable prices both in public and private hospitals,” he said.
Notable, the government recently fixed the rate of 51 types of medical tests for all government hospitals across the country. Ministry of Health and Family Planning asked all government hospitals for imposing the fixed rates.
Meanwhile, Prof Dr Asit Baran Adhikary, President of Association of Thorasic and Cardiovascular Surgeon of Asia, also voiced the same idea, saying, “The treatment rate of public and private hospitals should be same to ensure proper health care services to the people.”
Observing that treatment facilities in the country have tremendously developed in recent years, he urged the government to improve infrastructure and facilities of public hospitals to discourage people from going abroad, or to private hospitals, for treatment.
