Eight members of a family were killed in a devastating fire at Aramnagar area in Jaypurhat district town, reports BSS.
The deceased were identified as Dulal Hossain, 65, his wife Momena Khatun, 61, his son Abdul Momen,35, granddaughters Brishti, 15, Hashi,13, and Kushi,13 and one and a half year old grandson Noor, and his son’s wife Parina Khatun, 33.
Eyewitness sources said, the fire broke out in a three-room house of Dulal at Aramnagar area around 9.30pm on Wednesday.
Fire service sources said the fire might have been originated from electric short circuit from rice-cooker and soon engulfed the entire house leaving three people dead on the spot and critically injured five others.
The fire grievously injured five people who were rushed to the Adhunik District Hospital from where they were shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). Senior surgery consultant Dr Mafiur Rahman and physician of Emergency department Dr Saiful Islam of the hospital said that the injured people have suffered 70 to 75 percent injuries in the fire.
Four of them, died on the way to the hospital while the remaining Dulal Hossain died at the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of the DMCH this morning.
Awami League (AL) Organizing Secretary and local (Joypur-2 constituency) lawmaker Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapon rushed to the place of occurrence and inquired about the matter.
