The Election Commission (EC) will start monitoring social media round the clock from today (Monday), in order to stop spreading of rumour ahead of December 30 general election.
“None will be allowed to use social media for spreading propaganda. In this regard, a coordinated team comprising ICT officials will be formed,” EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed told reporters after a meeting with the high ups of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
Apart from BTRC officials, high ups from Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters also took part in the meeting.
He said if anyone is found engaged in spreading rumour and propaganda through social media, legal action will be taken against them as per to Digital Security Act .
“Nobody should upload fake news over the national election. We have also asked all people, institutions to refrain from uploading fake and baseless news at national and internal levels. We will go for action if anyone commits such offence,” he warned.
