The Election Commission has completed all preparations to hold the December 30 national election in a free, fair and credible manner.
Meanwhile, the EC Saturday disposed of the rejected candidates’ appeals and the last date for candidacy withdrawal is today (Sunday).
After withdrawal of the nomination papers, the commission will distribute the electoral symbols and candidates across the country, and candidates will be able to begin their campaigns.
After distribution of poll symbols among the candidates of political parties, the commission will start printing the ballot papers.
EC’s additional secretary Mukhlesur Rahman told Bangladesh Post, “We have completed all our necessary preparations to hold the next general elections in a free, fair and impartial manner. We are sending out all electoral equipment except for ballot papers,” he also said.
However, he said the commission will start printing ballot papers after withdrawal of nomination. The commission has also asked the political parties to submit their candidate list mentioning electoral symbols, he added.
After fixing the candidate list for contesting the polls, the commission will start printing the ballot papers. The EC will send ballot paper phase by phase to the returning officers, he added.
The EC is sending electoral equipment to regional election offices. On the first day, the commission will send electoral equipment to 32 districts. The EC will send rest of the electoral equipment from Sunday, he added.
EC officials said, the commission is sending election manuals, identity cards of presiding and polling officers, official seals, marking brush, bags, charger lights, calculator and different kinds of election related forms, pens, indelible inks and other material to the district level.
The EC will start sending ballot papers to the all parliamentary constituencies before seven days of the polls.
According to the polls schedule, the 11th national election will be held on December 30. The last date of withdrawal of nominations is December 9. The EC will allocate the polls symbols to candidates on December 10.
