The Election Commission wants to ease the process of correction of National Identity Card.
To this end, the commission has decided to install connectivity between central and district server so that citizens can get corrected NID cards from their respective district election offices, an EC official told Bangladesh Post on Wednesday.
He, however, informed that the EC would print NID cards at the district election offices.
He said the server stations would soon be connected to the central server in Dhaka, adding: “Once completed, voters will be able to make corrections in names, change addresses and apply for duplicate cards from their respective areas.”
EC officials said the commission has already set up connectivity with the regional election offices. The EC is now processing to put connectivity at district election offices with the central server of NID database.
Normally the commission receives three types application with regard to NID cards. These are — correction, changing address and loss of NID cards.
Citizens can get lost NID cards from the regional election offices within a day, officials said, adding that there was no need to come the Nirbachan Bhaban for getting any NID related activities.
In 2008, the commission initiated the task under the Construction of Server Stations for Electoral Database (CSSED) project funded by the UNDP.
