Dumping of garbage as well as the leather waste of garments on the premises of an educational institution at Fultola village under Nilphamari Sadar upazila has been hampering the educational atmosphere in the area.
A lot of leather wastes have already been dumped on the Fultola Bahumukhi High School playground. For this, the locals have been living in the area with a critical condition.
Locals and students alleged that they have been fighting for living with the uneasiness bad smell for last two months due to leather waste fall on the school playground. On the other hand, the students of the school have been facing sufferings.
Zeba Afria, a student of Class Seven of the school, said, “We are unable to give attention to the study in the school due to this bad smell. We have already stopped playing on the playground.”While contacted, S.M. Mojibul Haque, Headmaster of Fultola Bahumukhi High School, told the Bangladesh Post that they have submitted complainant on October 01 to the related office for quick removal of the waste, but the authorities did not take any necessary action in this regard till now.
Sarwar Hossain, Manager (Internal Audit) of Ventura Leather Manufacturing BD Ltd, said, “We appointed a contractor for removing our garments waste. We received the applicaton from the headmaster of Fultofala Bahumukhi High School in this regard and we will take necessary action for dumping.” Mahbub, a contractor of Nilphamari, said that the dumping is being done in a bid to fill up a canal of Eidgah grounds.
General Manager of Uttara EPZ SM Akhtar Alam told the Bangladesh Post that they will investigate the matter as soon as possible.
