Teachers and students of Dhaka University’s Institute of Business Administration (IBA) and different other departments have demanded immediate release of IBA’s teacher Khaled Mahmud. They also demanded withdrawal of the case filed against him.
The teachers and the students formed a human chain at the foot of Aparajeya Bangla on the campus on Monday protesting the arrest. President of Dhaka University Teachers’ Association Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, former Chairman of Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman, Dean of Law faculty of the university Prof Md Rahmatullah, IBA’s director Prof Syed Farhat Anwar, former director Prof AKM Saiful Mazid, associate professor Melita Mehjabin and associate professor of Economics department Rushad Faridi spoke at the human chain, among others.
Earlier on November 25 and 30, Dhaka University Teachers’ Association in separate statements expressed concern over arrest of the teacher and demanded his release.
On November 21 night, Khaled Mahmud, an associate professor of IBA, was arrested from Bashundhara Residential Area in a case filed with Vatara police station under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
