The Dhaka University authorities are taking preparations to hold the elections to Dhaka University Central Student Union or (DUCSU) and hall unions. The possible date of the election is March 31.
As part of the preparations, the university authorities will hold a dialogue with active student organizations on January 10.
Letters were sent to many students organisations in this regard. In the letters, leaders of the organisations were requested to join the meeting to express their opinions and suggestions.
The ruling Awami League’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and all left-leaning students organisations have already received the invitation letters, while the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has not received the letter till now.
Proctor of the university Prof AKM Golam Rabbani said, “All the student organisations have been informed. We want everyone’s opinion and cooperation.”
“DUCSU election is important to make the university completely democratic. We want DUCSU elections,” said BCL DU unit president Sanjit Chandra Das.
Umme Habiba Benojir, DU unit president of Bangladesh Student Federation, said, “Everyone can participate in the dialogue, but whether everyone can participate in elections is a question. We hope that the administration will announce the polls schedule soon and ensure the coexistence of all the student organizations in the university campus.”
