Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM), the country’s traditional and prestigious domestic cricket league committee, fixed a tentative date of February 20 for Dhaka Premier League (DPL) for the 2018-2019 season, reports agencies.
Consulting with the participating clubs, the apex body of the domestic cricket clubs decided to hold the players’ draft on the basis of the players’ by choice system, which will be held by the end of January or the first week of February.
CCDM-in-charge Tawhid Mahmood revealed all to media after holding a meeting with the participation of the clubs’ officials at the board management office of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur yesterday.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief executive office Nizamuddin Chowdhury, CCDM Senior vice chairman Masuduzzaman and its member secretary Ali Hossain, among others, were also present.
“For the outset of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), we’ve decided to start Dhaka Premier League (DPL) just after the end of the BPL,” said Tawhid Mahmood.
“We’ve some procedures to go for the DPL. Players’ draft is one of them. We want to complete the players draft by the end of January or the first week of February. Then we could start DPL in the aftermath of the BPL,” Mahmood told media.
When asked about the players’ transfer system, the CCDM-in-charge said that they have decided to hold the players’ transfer system on the basis of the players’ by choice what they fixed after consulting with the participating clubs’ teams.
“This year we’re going to players’ by choice system after the consent of the participating clubs’ teams,” he said. “It’s always tough to get the national team’s players for their international commitments. To think the participation of the players, we’re going to players’ by choice system,” he noted. “It’ll be held in the atmosphere of the international standard. Last year no allegation was reported. But we’re thinking how we could hold it further in better way. The directives from the board have been given to CCDM and our board president played an important role so that the league could be staged at the atmosphere of the international standard.”
Asked if any chance to telecast any match of the DPL this time around, Tawhid flatly said they are yet to decide but they will try to at least one-two important matches of the Super League phase.
“We’ll float our tender within the next one-two days for the title and co-title sponsor of the DPL. We’re trying along with the board so that we could manage to telecast at least one or two important matches of the DPL Super League this year,” he responded.
