The National Board of revenue (NBR) is introducing digital innovations in a bid to gradually turn into a paperless office side by side ensuring hassle-free services to the taxpayers. Besides, the national tax department has already taken a move to expand tax offices to upazila levels with a view to widening tax-net as well as increase revenue collection for mobilising resources to expedite country’s development activities.
Senior Secretary of Internal Resources Division and NBR Chairman Mosarraf Hossain Bhuiyan said this while speaking at a programme titled ‘Showcasing NBR Innovations’ on Sunday in the capital’s Institution of the Diploma Engineers of Bangladesh (IDEB).
He said, the tax officials are now working to introduce more innovations which will be launched soon. Before that “we have to first effectively implement the automation initiatives those have been launched today.” “The revenue collection in the first quarter of the current fiscal year is higher than that of the previous year’s collection,” he said adding: the proceeds is however Tk 11,000 crore lower than the target set for the period.” In the programme a number of higher officials of VAT, income tax and customs regimes of NBR and its different field offices were present at the programme.
