A new chapter of the country’s banking history has been initiated at Echotex Ltd in Gazipur on Saturday where Bank Asia has installed the first-ever ‘RMG Digital Banking Booth’, an one-of-a-kind banking service to serve the key craftswomen of country’s development story, the readymade garments
workers.
This is an on-premise especial bank where all the workers of Echotex factory will receive effortless banking facilities facilitating workers to do banking without taking leave or carry vulnerable cash money for the workers, ultimately saving time and expenses.

The programme was chaired by Mohammad Bin Kashem, director of Echotex Ltd, Md. Nasir Uddin, Director, BGMEA, Md Arfan Ali, President & Managing Director, Bank Asia Ltd and high officials from the bank & Echotex were present on the occasion.
Over the past few decades, RMG sector has consistently been the main driving force of country’s economic growth. According to Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) of Bangladesh, during the first quarter of 2018-2019 financial year, there was a 19 percent increase in export earnings and majority of this earning was contributed by the RMG sector.
“The RMG digital banking booth in practice, will work as a key enabler for achieving the financial inclusion goals of Bangladesh as the readymade garments workers are undoubtedly the main active driving force of country’s economic competitiveness, including them in the banking system will deliver a sustainable edge,” said Arfan Ali.
“Bank Asia intends to amplify this project to lend a hand to the thousands of RMG workers that are contributing to Bangladesh’s growth trajectory as we believe it is our moral responsibility to serve them”, he added.
Mentionable, Arfan Ali is the mastermind of Bank Asia Agent Banking service that was also initiated to cater financial inclusion goals of banking the unbanked population.
The goal of this banking service is simple, every RMG worker will avail an individual bank account where they will get easy and effortless banking facility. Till now, 18 RMG factories are on the process of including the service with Bank Asia &it is intended to reach all over the country incrementally. “It is a remarkable footstep to improve the lifestyle of the RMG workers”, director of Echotex Mohammad Bin Kashem said regarding the matter.
