Last editions runners-up Dhaka Dynamites and Champions Rangpur Riders will lock horns in the match 9 of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium today (Friday). The match is scheduled to begin at 2 pm.
It is a clash of two heavyweights as Dhaka and Rangpur stand in first and second position in the table respectively. Dhaka Dynamites dominated the points table with four points from two matches while Rangpur Riders also stand behind them securing four points playing three outings.
After thrashing their opponents in the last two matches Dhaka will look to continue their supremacy in the tournament. Dhaka are comparatively stronger outfit with players like in form opener Hazratullah Zazai, who have been in superb form in last two matches. Their lineup also boasts of strong T20 campaigners in Andre Russell, Shakib Al Hasan and Kieron Pollard, which makes them a team to reckon with.
Skipper Shakib was brilliant with the ball in the last match as he took 3 wickets. So the Dynamites will look to carry on with the winning combination from the last game. With some greatest hitters of the cricket ball, their batting line-up is sure to scare any bowling attack. Also, the captain has got plenty of bowling options as most of his resources have done extremely well thus far.
The Riders, on the other hand, are slowly aligning themselves with the track and are getting better with every game as the tournament progresses. After losing the opening encounter, they managed a narrow win in their second game. This was followed by a 9-wicket win against the Comilla Victorians. Even the Riders would have set their eye on a third consecutive win.
The Rangpur Riders could also go into the contest with the same side. Skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza is undoubtedly the pivotal player for Rangpur. Not only with his supervisory leadership, Mashrafe also made the difference with his lethal medium pace bowling in the last match against Comilla.
He scalped 4 wickets by giving away only 11 runs in his four over spell. So he will again be the key player for Rangpur. With Chris Gayle at the other end, Mehedi Maruf can play freely and take up the role of an anchor in batting.
