Along with the quick progress in the construction of much expected Padma Bridge, the construction of the four-lane Dhaka-Mawa Expressway is going on in full swing. Local and foreign engineers and workers are working day and night to build this expressway. Construction workshave gathered a faster pace with building of roads, bridges and culverts.
Experts said if the construction works go on at the current pace, Dhaka-Mawa Expressway will be fully completed before the construction of the Padma Bridge and could be opened for vehicular movement.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, the government proposed to build the expressway with the aim of improving the communication system of the country’s south-western region with the capital.
In the expressway, there will be no traffic signals anywhere. So there would be no point on the highway to stop the vehicles, which will ensure their smooth and risk-free movement. For the movement of the local people, the four lane expressway will have two separate lanes on either side. This much important highway incorporating these two lanes is the 6-lane highway or the country’s first expressway.
