Dhaka Division have maintained the dominance on their first National Cricket League match throughout the third day of the game. Their opponents, Chittagong Division, now need a mammoth 347 run to win the Tier 2 clash, with seven wickets in hand.
The two Dhaka Division openers, Abdul Mazid and Rony Talukdar, kept testing the mettle of their opponents by keeping the score ticking. They added 174 more runs to their 176-run stand from the previous day, before Jubair Hossain dismissed Mazid.
The right-handed batsman completed his century before returning to the pavilion and contributed 132 important runs to the total. Rony, on the other hand, converted his century from the previous day into a double hundred and remained unbeaten on his career-best first-class innings of 228 runs when Dhaka Division declared their innings at a total of 385/1.
Coming on to chase a target of 482 runs, Chittagong suffered an early blow as Irfan Sukkur fell cheaply. The other opening batsman, Sadiqur Rahman, also failed to make his mark and returned scoring 24 runs.
Their skipper Mominul Haque played a substantial innings of 62 runs before getting out by Nazmul Islam. Shuvagoto Hom and Shahadat Hossain were the other two wicket-takers for Dhaka Tasamul Haque and Saeed Sarkar will resume the innings for Chittagong on the fourth and final day.
The onus is now on the team’s middle-order to save the match, as they are still not in a position of posing a threat to the opponents.
