A devastating fire broke out at a warehouse of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BRTA) at Khanpur area in the city on Friday noon.
Officer-in-Charge of Narayanganj Sadar model police station Md Kamrul Islam told this correspondent that the sixteen fire units have been trying to extinguishing the fire. “The fire originated from the southern part of the rented godown at about 1 pm,” he added.
But none the fire brigade and civil defense and police could not asserted the origination of fire anyway.
On information, firefighting units from Hajiganj, Mondolpara, Adamzee fire stations went to the spot and are trying to bring the blaze under control.
The minister for river transport affair Shajahan Khan immediately visited the spot and told the newsmen that the fire gutted valuables plastic pipes, worth Tk 15 crore, imported from Italy and kept at an open place ijnside the warehouse.
Deputy director of fire service and civil defense Abdullah Arefin said that the fire originated from any left fire subtances and within short time spreed in whole places where piled up pipes for BIWTA uses in river.
Firefighters succeeded dousing the fire by evening after several hours of frantic efforts.
