A day-long `baul utsab’ commemorating the renowned mystic singer and song composer of the country Ukil Munshi will be held in Netrakona today.
All out preparations have been completed to hold the festival at the Adorsanagar Shahid Smriti College Ground at Mohanganj upazila of the district.
Planning minister MA Mannan will inaugurate the festival while minister for post and telecommunication Mustafa Jabbar and Rebeka Mumin MP will also join the function to be chaired by Prime Minister’s Office Senior Secretary Sazzadul Hassan.
Vice chancellor of Netrakona Sheikh Hasina University Dr Rafiqullah Khan, prominent writer professor Jatin Sarker and commissioner of Mymensing division Mahmud Hasan are, among others, expected to attend the festival.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Mohanganj upazila Mehdi Mahmud Akanda who is also the member secretary of the festival celebration committee said a number of country’s renowned folk and boul singers including Momotaz Begum MP will render songs in the festival.
Abdul Hazi Akand under the pseudonym of Ukil Munshi was a famous baul singer and composer born in 1918. He wrote about 1000 songs making immense contribution to baul genre. Ukil Munshi was died August 6, 1978.
