Leaders of the Chattogram city unit Awami League have greeted AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her landslide victory in the December 30 polls and taking oath as prime minister for the third consecutive time.
Acting President of Chattogram city unit Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury, General Secretary and Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation AJM Nasir Uddin along with 38 members of the city unit’s executive committee greeted Sheikh Hasina with a bouquet at the PM’s official residence Ganobhaban in the capital on Saturday night.
Deputy Minister for Education and elected MP from Chattogram-9 Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel was also present at the time.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina thanked the Chattogram leaders for ensuring victory of the Awami League’s candidates in the national elections in all 16 seats in Chattogram.
Sheikh Hasina said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had established the Awami League as a party of people. The Father of the Nation had the dream of hunger and poverty-free Bangladesh. “Our work is to fulfill the dreams of the Father of the Nation. It is my expectation that the ruling Awami League will build hunger and poverty-free Bangladesh,” she said.
AJM Nasir Uddin said Sheikh Hasina has achieved a hat-trick victory with huge support from the people. He said that before the election, Sheikh Hasina had given her a chance to unite all the forces of the Liberation War, including the Awami League. “We had united the pro-liberation force of the Liberation War and ensured victory in all the sixteen seats in Chattogram. We keep the words given to the Prime Minister,” he said.
City Awami League vice-president Khorshed Alam Sujon, treasurer and chairman of Chattogram Development Authority Abdus Salam were present in the meeting.
