The three-day countrywide fair titled ‘Development Fair 2018’ is set to kick off today (Thursday) at district and upazila levels across the country.
The 4th Development Fair will showcase the government’s development activities and achievements made so far in its journey towards making Bangladesh a middle- income country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the fair through a video conference from her official residence, Ganabhaban, in Dhaka in the morning.
In Manikganj, the district administration has taken necessary measures to hold the fair at ‘Bijoy Meler Math’ in the district town. The fair will also be held at seven upazila headquarters of the
district, reports our Manikganj Correspondent.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Manikganj SM Ferdous at a press conference on Wednesday called upon the officials and others concerned to make the Development Fair-2018 a success. ADC (General) Md Babu Mia also attended the press conference.
State minister for health and family welfare Alhaj Zahid Maleque Sawpan MP will formally inaugurate the fair in the district town. The fair premises and the district town have been decorated colourfully. On the occasion, a grand rally would be brought out from Bijoy Meler Math’ at about 9.00 am.
Talking to this correspondent, DC SM Ferdous said almost all the government offices were instructed to set up stalls in the fair displaying their departmental development activities through projectors. The Development Fair includes over 108 stalls with different government offices and institutions, which will continue till October 6.
In Khulna, the fair will begin on the Circuit House ground in Khulna city. DC of Khulna Mohammad Helal Hossain said that Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Narayan Chandra Chanda is expected to attend the inaugural function of the event here as chief guest.
A total of 154 government and nongovernment organizations have set up stalls in the fair.
A colourful procession will be brought out in the city before inauguration of the fair.
In Mymensingh, a colourful rally will be brought out from town hall to Gymnasium campus at 9:00 am. After the inauguration, a discussion meeting on “Bangabandur Unnayan Darshan” will be held at the same venue. Minister of Religious affaire Principal Motiur Rahman will address as chief guest.
Later, a seminar on thinking of youths for building Digital Banglsdesh will be held at 4:00 pm followed by cultural function.
On 2nd day, a discussion will be held at 3.30 pm on 10 special initiatives of Prime Minister and Sustainable Development (SDG). Divisional Commissioner Mahmud Hasan will present as chief guest.
On the concluding day on October 6, Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family welfare GM Saleh uddin will present as chief guest and distribute prizes while Deputy Commissioner Dr. Subash Chandra Biswas will preside.
In Rajshahi, the fair organised by district administration will be held at Rajshahi College playground where more than 172 government and associate development organisations will showcase their respective development achievements in separate stalls.
Before the inaugural session, a colourful rally will be held from Alupatty crossing and that will end at the fair venue after parading some thoroughfares.
Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi SM Abdul Kader said these in a pre-fair press briefing. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Alamgir Kabir and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Abu Hayat Muhammad Rahmatullah also attended the press conference.
State Minister of Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, MP, Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Divisional Commissioner Nur-Ur-Rahman, Director General of NGO Bureau Abdus Salam, DIG of Rajshahi Range Khurshid Hussain, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Hafiz Akhter will attend the inaugural session.
The fair will remain open for all from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm for.
In Gaibandha, the 3-day long 4th development fair will be launched on Independence Square in the district town.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal at a press conference on Wednesday said that a total of 80 stalls will be set up at the fair where different government, semi-government, autono-mous bodies and non government organizations will exhibit their respective development activities side by side with providing live services to the students by some departments. Reality show, quiz competition and cultural function will be arranged at the fair venue for the students.
Whip of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini is likely to inaugurate the fair in the morning as the chief guest, sources said. Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Adv Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon, additional deputy commissioner (General) Rokhsana Begum, NDC M. Ashik Reza, and journalists Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman and SM Biplob Islam spoke, among others.
