Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Thursday said the government will create examples by reaching the targets given in Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) just like the timely attainment of the MDGs.
He said the government is moving forward successfully to meet the target timely in achieving SDG goals by undertaking an action plan under the able guidance of the Prime Minister.
The Minister made the remarks while addressing as chief guest at the plenary session of the national convention on review of SDG implementation, jointly organized by the Governance Innovation Unit of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and GED of the Planning Commission at the BICC, Agargaon in city.
Minister mentioned that Bangladesh has been awarded by the United Nations (UN) for timely achieving the MDG goals, the UN has set a 17 point goals, 169 targets and 241 indicators for attaining the SDG.
“Bangladesh is moving forward towards a balanced development by involving all class of people irrespective of economic conditions by setting up certain targets SDG, Bangladesh is now the 32nd economic power in the world and will advance towards the 28th position by timely implementing the SDG goals”, Minister added.
Chief Coordinator of SDG at the PMO, Abul Kalam Azad moderated the plenary session of the convention while Founder and Chairman of BRAC, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed and former senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Dr. Mozammel Haque Khan delivered speech as special guest.
Mentioning that the ratio of poor people in the country has come down by 24.8 percent and ratio of hardcore poor people has come down by 11.9 percent, speakers hoped that through the implementation of the SDG the level of ultra-poor people will come below 3 percent.
Senior Secretary, GED of the Ministry of Planning, Dr. Shamsul Alam also spoke on the occasion among others.
