Agriculture Secretary-in-Charge Md Nasiruzzaman has urged the field level extension officials, scientists and researchers to put in their level best efforts to boost the agricultural yield to ensure food security.
He also asked them to innovate time-fitting and effective technologies to face the existing challenges like declining of arable land and adverse impact of climate challenge in the agriculture sector to protect it.
He came up with the instruction while sharing views with officials of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) and other agriculture related scientists and researchers at conference hall of Additional Director of DAE in Rajshahi city Monday as
chief guest.
Chaired by Additional Director SM Mustafizur Rahman, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Executive Director of Barind Multipurpose Development Authority Abdur Rashid, DAE Deputy Directors Shamsul Alam, Monjurul Huda, Rafiqul Islam and Monojit Kumar Mallik.
Principal Scientific Officer of Fruit Research Station Dr Alim Uddin and Principal Scientific Officer of Soil Resource Development Institute Dr Tawab Ali Khandaker also spoke.
Agriculture Secretary Nasiruzzaman said the role of agriculture sector is very vital for ensuring food security. He called upon the field level officials and researchers to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty.
He mentioned that the government has attached highest priority to the agriculture sector and added that the field level officials and researchers should take the responsibilities of protecting the agriculture sector.
Nasiruzzaman attributed that the region scored significant progress in the crop production sector following expansion of irrigation facilities.
Time has come to bring diversification in cropping pattern to protect the farmers’ interests. He said farmers motivation should be intensified so that they are encouraged to cultivate less-water consuming crops like aush paddy, wheat, mustard and maize.
