Due to its continuous implementation of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards, Civil Aviation Authority Bangladesh (CAAB) has ensured quality standard of aviation which is currently leading South Asia, and as a recognition the organisation has been nominated for the ‘ICAO Safety’ award.
A team led by Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Mohibul Haque already left the country on 7 October last to attend the Air Navigation Conference at Montreal in Canada from October 9-19. CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Naim Hassan and Director (Flight Safety and Regulations) M Zia Ul Kabir are also in the delegation.
CAAB public relation officer AKM Rezaul Karim confirmed this while talking to Bangladesh Post. He said they have already reached Montreal as they left the country on Sunday early morning. As per CAAB’s information, ICAO gives the award to civil aviation authority of different countries around the world every year in recognition to their excellent development, efficiency and professionalism in the aviation security system.
It is to be noted that the Centre’s performance on oversight of aviation safety rules has come under scrutiny and been seen as under par, ICAO audit on safety standard and compliance (effective implementation) Bangladesh has scored 76 which is highest in the South Asian region.
The ICAO audit judges safety oversight to implement ICAO standards based on eight parameters — legislation, organisation, licensing, operations, airworthiness, accident investigation, air navigation services and aerodromes.
Of them, the country has scored 70 in legislation, 80 in organisation, 78 in licensing, 85 in operations, 85 in airworthiness, 67 in accident investigation, 72 in air navigation, and 67 in air navigation services and aerodromes.
CAAB director (Flight Safety and Regulation) Zia Ul Kabir told Bangladesh Post, “With our continuous development ICAO is recognising us with the safety award. This will represent us as a stronger aviation to the world”.
According to the CAAB, with the help of British company Redline Aviation Security, country’s premier airport Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport made excellent upgradation on security system and air safety system.
