Cattle thieves syndicate has become active at Malandha upazila in Jamalpur suddenly. Cows of many farmers in the upazila have been stolen in the last couple of days. Farmers are now keeping watch on the cowsheds in night.
The cows are being stolen through the pickup vans by the syndicate.
Eight members of the syndicate were detained along with five cows by the patrol police of Jamalpur Sadar Police Station.
The arrested thieves are Ibrahim, 50, son of Sona Mondal of Katma village of Islampur, Shahjahan, 28, son of Zahid Ali Kamar of village Kazla, Russel Mia, 32, son of Ashraf Mia of Munniyachar, Manik, 42, son of Genda Sheikh of Kajalchar of Charkhabulia village of Melandah Mahmudpur, Rashid’s son Mofiz Uddin, 28, Gaziur Rahman, 33, son of Mannan Sarkar of Banshekh village under Tangail, 33, was admitted to Barisal village of Charsinghopur. A: Oli Ahmed, 27, son of Alauddin of Sirajdikhan baraliya Shahadat Hossain.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Nasimul Islam said that after the interrogation of the thieves, they were handed over to the Melandh police station.
Melandha police station duty officer Ali Hossain said that the complainant, Ghuler owner Abitelab filed the case (Case No-5) at night.
Meanwhile, on 3 October, Beltol of Ghosharpara Union, on the outskirts of Godarbazar, robbed the house of cloth vendor Abul Kalam Azad and stole goods worth lakhs of taka including cash and clothes. Jahurul Islam, 35, son of Ahsan Ali alias Deborah, and his associate Idriss’s son Jahurul Islam, 35, were involved in the theft.
Ghosharpara UP chairman Obaidur Rahman confirmed the incident and said that he visited the site.

On the other hand, 5 cows were stolen from pickup vans in Ruffik’s village farm in Baluata village in September. In this regard, the general diary was lodged in Melandah police station. A thief was arrested and handed over to the police station for stealing two cows of farmer Abdullah, but the cows were not recovered.
